Everybody seemed to be in high spirit when the Swedish Center San Diego presented its first public event – the celebration of Carolus Linnaeus (Carl von Linné), at San Diego State University, September 23.
This Sunday afternoon’s program, included among other things, a time capsule that traveled the guests back to the 18th century to meet Linnaeus himself. There were also songs by two Swedish choirs and a photo presentation of a Lappland journey in the footsteps of Linnaeus. The program was followed by a reception where wine and refreshments were served.
Among 120 people – including the new Consul General in Los Angeles, Nina Ersman – attended the event, which was held in the brand new Ulla Lotta Wiik Auditorium.
Ulla “Lotta” Wiik Lambert herself was honored with a tribute and flower bouquets. Afterwards she was delighted:
– I’m thrilled with the program, and I know there has been lot of hard work with this event. I really hope there will be more venues like this in the future.
She was especially impressed by Anders Björling’s and Roland Thorstensson’s presentation of their journey up north in Sweden and Norway:
– I’m very impressed by their pictures. We all learned a lot and they brought us closer to Linnaeus than we probably ever been before. I also have to mention Linnaeus himself; he was phenomenal, she said, having Peter Larlham’s acting in view.
Peter Larlham enjoyed being Linnaeus for a day:
– It felt absolutely fabulous. But I had to read up a bit about myself, he admitted.
